I’ve got major jock itch. It’s driving me nuts. I’ve tried sprays, creams, and powders. Nothing is working. Any old remedies I should try? It burns and itches big time!

Thanks for your question. Jock itch (medical name Tinea Cruris) is a skin infection in your groin that’s caused by a fungus.

What are the symptoms of jock itch?

  • Itching and burning
  • A red, scaly skin rash
  • Flaking, cracking or peeling of the skin on your groin and inner thighs

How is jock itch diagnosed?

Jock itch is often diagnosed by a health care provider based on your symptoms and examining your skin.

How do you treat jock itch?

You can treat jock itch with antifungal medicine. Often people can use an over the counter cream for this. However if that is not working, it’s a good idea to see a health care provider. Then can either prescribe a stronger cream or prescribe a pill that is an antifungal medicine you take by mouth. They can also make sure it’s jock itch and not another kind of rash.

It’s also important to:

  • Keep your groin clean and dry
  • Wear loose clothing that doesn’t rub against the rash
  • If you can use a different towel to dry your groin after showering so that you don’t spread the infection to the rest of your body
