Stomach bloating: Two warning symptoms indicating your bloat is something more serious
Stomach bloating is a common occurrence which takes place after a rather indulgent meal, too much to drink or a food type which does not agree with you. Often the symptom of bloating will subside in its own time and is not a cause for concern. However, if your bloating precedes weight loss and stomach pain, you should carefully monitor these signs as they could indicate something is far more serious.
Weight loss
Weight loss is one of the main warning signs for bloating signalling something could potentially be more serious.
If a person is finding themselves losing more than a few pounds without changing their diet or starting a new exercise regimen, that should be a cause for concern.
Weight loss can be caused by tumours which press on the intestines, making one feel full after just a small amount of food.
Weight loss can also be from substances secreted by tumours which suppress the appetite.
If a person experiences weight loss alongside the bloating it could be a serious medical condition.
Now Patient said: “Weight loss alongside continually bloating should be explored by your GP, especially if the weight loss was not part of a change of diet or lifestyle.”
Stomach cancer is when an abnormal group of cells, known as a tumour, develops inside the stomach and weight loss is often the warning symptom of this deadly condition.

Stomach pain
Stomach pain is a term used to refer to cramps or a dull ache in the tummy.
But this is usually short-lived and is often not serious.
But the NHS warns: “Severe abdominal pain is a greater concern.
“If it starts suddenly and unexpectedly, it should be regarded as a medical emergency, especially if the pain is concentrated in a particular area.”
Less commonly, abdominal bloating may be due to other serious conditions, said Medical News Today.
The site continued: “People with gallstones or gallbladder disease may experience intense abdominal pain that mimics bloating.
“Cancers of the stomach or intestines may also lead to abdominal discomfort and bloating.
“Ascites is another condition that leads to abdominal pain and bloating. “Ascites is a build-up of fluid in the abdominal cavity over a period of time.
“The most common cause of this is liver disease.”
There are many possible causes of abdominal bloating, including fluid retention, irritable bowel syndrome, and infection. However, for most people, the cause of bloating will be fairly harmless, and it can be treated at home.
Abdominal bloating can be alarming, particularly when it is very painful.
In many cases, the cause may be something as simple as indigestion or too much gas building up in the stomach and bowels.
If your bloating is accompanied with either weight loss or stomach pain however, it’s important to discuss this matter with your GP.
