Rumer Willis Announces Arrival of First Baby: 'Pure Magic'
Rumer Willis has brought her baby earthside, and she’s absolutely doting on her darling daughter.
Announcing her first child’s arrival on her Instagram, Willis shared a photo of the newborn looking peaceful and happy as she snoozed in a baby lounger. The new mom captioned the sweet snap, “You are pure magic🌱 Born at home on Tuesday April 18th — You are more than we ever dreamed of ✨.”
Step-mom Emma Heming Willis showered The House Bunny actress with virtual love, commenting, “Omg we love her so so much 😍😍😍😍😍.” Sister Tallulah Willis also expressed her affection, writing, “Hi my tiny petal. We missed you so much for so long. Ill love you every moment of every day ! Youre kooky aunts are obsessed with you.”
Famous friends were just as quick to flood the comments with congratulations and an outpouring of love. Hilary Duff wrote, “Yes mama …. Magical!” Jenna Dewan commented, “Ahhhhhh angel!!!! So happy for you all!!!❤️❤️🙌🙌,” and Nikki Reed, who is also pregnant and due soon, gushed, “The sweetest girl❤️ loving you and your mama endlessly…”
Willis’ Dancing with the Stars family passed along emotional messages as well. Maksim Chmerkovskiy wrote, “I love you so much babe!!! She is beautiful!! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” and his wife and fellow DWTS pro, Peta Murgatroyd, commented, “What a beauty 😍 I love you so much babe, I’m so proud of you.”
The comments from celebs and fans go on and on — a true testament to how much Willis, and by extension, her daughter, is adored.
Sharing Her Daughter’s Name
Willis revealed her baby girl’s name in her Instagram announcement: Louetta Isley Thomas Willis.
The DWTS champion and her partner, Derek Richard Thomas, opted to give Baby Louetta her mama’s famous moniker — perhaps a nod to Bruce Willis’ legacy, as the family recently shared his heartbreaking dementia diagnosis.
In any case, the order of the little one’s last name is a modern, feminist move we can absolutely get behind — as can Maria Menounos and her husband, who recently spoke of taking the same route with their daughter once she arrives this summer.
On choosing a name, Willis told PEOPLE during an exclusive interview at the beginning of April, “I come from a family where I’m named Rumer, and my sisters are Scout and Tallulah, so I knew that I wanted something interesting, unique, and different. Thankfully, my partner was super down.”
She added, “But then there’s a part of me too, that I feel like I have to see [the baby]. It’s such a weird sensation where you’re like, ‘I love this kid, this little person so much, but I don’t necessarily know them, so I have to see who they are and see if that fits.’”
Adding a New Willis to the Bunch
During the same interview with PEOPLE, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress expressed how much she hopes her daughter inherits the “goofiness” that runs through the Willis-Moore family tree.
She said, “We’re so goofy, all of us, and just weird. We’re a family of weirdos, and I love that so much. I really hope that that is engendered in this child, just the silliness and goofiness.” Willis added, “That’s my favorite thing. Laughing with my family. I have a crazy laugh and so does my partner, so I’m actually probably the most curious to see what it sounds like.”
The 34-year-old also shared how excited her family is about the arrival of the first member of a new generation. “It’s so fun to be bringing in the first grandkid in our family, especially because we’re such a huge group at this point,” she explained.
“My sisters just keep saying, ‘I can’t wait to put their foot in my mouth, or just play with them.’ I’m so grateful that I’m so close with my family that I get to rely on them for support that way,” the eldest Willis daughter gushed.
On Having More Kids
Before Louetta arrived in the world, Willis was already entertaining thoughts of more children. “The more the merrier,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m one of five sisters. Even though we’re from two separate litters, I can’t imagine not having siblings. We are so close. My sisters are my best friends. I can’t imagine not giving my kids that,” the actress explained.
For the time being though, Willis is simply basking in new motherhood and looking forward to “hearing them laugh, figuring out who they are, playing with them, and getting to know them” — all things post-birth bliss.
