How Princess Lilibet's Christening Was a Stark Contrast to Her Brother Archie's

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter was christened Princess Lilibet Diana on Friday, and the special ceremony was a lot different from her big brother’s. After all, Prince Archie, 3 was christened in July 2019, two months after his birth and six months before his parents left the Royal Family.

At almost 2 years old, Princess Lilibet was christened by Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev. John Taylor, in a “small and intimate” ceremony at the family’s home in California, according to PEOPLE. It was a definite change of scenery from Prince Archie’s lavish christening at Windsor Chapel with Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

Of course, the differences didn’t stop at the venue. The guest lists, which were similar in size (20-30 people), also had some discrepencies.

Sources say King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton were invited to Princess Lilibet’s celebration, but they were reportedly not in attendance. The four did attend Prince Archie’s christening. Meanwhile, Princess Lilibet’s headliner was godfather Tyler Perry, and I mean — talk about an awesome chosen family!

The late Queen Elizabeth II was obviously not at Princess Lilibet’s christening, but she also did not attend Prince Archie’s because of a prior commitment. And no, she was not necessarily throwing shade. The then-Queen had missed milestones for other great grandchildren, including Prince Louis’ baptism.

If the Royal Family did not make the trip over the pond, we have to imagine the royal christening gown didn’t arrive either. Ditto when it comes to the traditional Lily Font and christening water from the Jordan River.
