Dr Eric Berg shares 11 red flags your body needs more nutrients
From vitamin D deficiency to potassium deficiency, your body could alert you to missing nutrients in many ways.
Fortunately, Dr Eric Berg has shared what to look out for on his YouTube Channel.
1. Excessive yawning
While yawning could be just a sign of being tired or out of shape, it could also be an iron deficiency, according to the expert.
Apart from yawning, another sign that could alert to the deficiency is shortness of breath.
Iron deficiency can be either triggered by a lack of the nutrient in your diet, or your stomach acid is not being “strong enough” to extract iron from the meat you do eat, Dr Berg explained.

2. Air hunger
Air hunger describes difficulty breathing when you’re trying to get more oxygen. “Usually, the cause is because your body or more specifically your blood is too acidic,” the doctor said.
Dr Berg explained that the culprit behind these problems could be B1 deficiency.
People tend to be deficient in B1 when they eat too many carbohydrates or sugars. “The more carbs you eat, the more B1 you’re going to need to deal with those carbs,” he added.
3. Twitching
This can crop up on your eyelid, face or arm when your blood is “excessively” alkaline.
When this occurs, you can’t transport calcium that well and it starts building up on your nerves, the doctor shared.

He added: “Simple remedy would be to take some apple cider vinegar to acidify the body a little bit and mobilise the calcium.” But vitamin D could also help.
4. Green stool or yellow stool
If your stool is green, you could be deficient in bile or have a gut problem like inflammation.
The doctor said: “If you find as soon as you start increasing your vegetables, you get diarrhoea and have green stool, you should probably just avoid vegetables for now and do the carnivore diet for a while.”
The doctor explained that yellow stool is more likely to be caused by lack of bile, especially if your poo floats. Fortunately, you can take bile as a supplement to target this.
5. Achiness in your lower back or hips
This is a “classic” sign of vitamin D deficiency. The good news is that taking the sunshine vitamin in a supplement form could relieve this pain in 10 to 15 minutes.

However, the deficiency can also cause bone pain in other parts of the body, so Dr Berg recommended pressing down on your sternum or shin bones to check for this.
6. Cold intolerance
The doctor said: “If you can’t tolerate the cold, that is iodine deficiency because it’s the function of the thyroid.” However, he noted that B1 deficiency could also be to blame.
7. White tongue
Dr Berg said: “In your colon, you have a lot of bacteria, like 99 percent of bacteria, and then you have one percent other microorganisms like yeast, fungus, also candida.”
While these organisms usually co-exist, candida can start rearing its ugly head when you stress these organisms like when you take antibiotics, for example.
He added: “The real cause is deficiency in probiotics so you just need to take a probiotic… But you also have to give up sugar.”
8. High LDL cholesterol but low HDL cholesterol
According to the doctor, this is a classic vitamin B3 deficiency sign which can be remedied by taking a B3 supplement.
9. Bloating or stomach pain or indigestion
Dr Berg explained that this could point to a lack of acid in your stomach with the remedy being betaine hydrochloride.
10. Muscle weakness
Experiencing this sensation in your muscles could be pointing to sodium deficiency, so you need to eat more salt.
11.High blood pressure
The doctor explained that hypertension as well as high pulse rate could be red flags for potassium deficiency or sometimes even vitamin D deficiency.
He said: “This is why sometimes when people take vitamin D, they may even end up with low blood pressure or low pulse rate. Most people need vitamin D and it helps to regulate the cardiovascular system very, very efficiently.”
