Britney Spears Breaks Her Silence On The Documentary About Her Life

Given that she hadn’t released new music, it might have been a peculiar discovery to see that over the last few weeks, Britney Spears has been trending. If most had thought the star had simply faded into oblivion, the recent Free Britney documentary courtesy of the New York Times investigation put Britney back into the spotlight, alerting fans and all those who’ve grown up singing the stars iconic songs to the reality of her existence.

For those who didn’t watch the documentary, it centred around the Free Britney movement, something that was once largely dismissed as a conspiracy theory. The 75-minute documentary explored the stars ascent to stardom, the deterioration of her mental health and constant invasion of her privacy by the media, as well as the legal arrangement that has catalysed a movement among fans to “free Britney.”

Aside from dealing with hyper-sexualisation and bullying from the media at a young age, Britney has also had to navigate family struggles after a conservatorship was launched by her father, Jamie Spears (who, it should be said, was depicted as quite the villain in the documentary). While the documentary revealed a lot, it was noted that Britney’s own voice was absent from the film. Now though, the singer is speaking out, saying that she “cried for two weeks” after watching the documentary.

Spears had previously addressed the documentary indirectly, posting cryptic messages to her Instagram page and giving little away. But on Tuesday, she posted a statement to Instagram which read: “I didn’t watch the documentary,” before adding what she had seen of it left her “embarrassed by the light they put me in.”

“I cried for two weeks,” Britney said, adding: “and well…I still cry sometimes !!!!”.

The statement was then accompanied by a video of the pop star dancing to the Aerosmith song Crazy.

Spears writes in the post: “I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people !!! It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged…insulted…and embarrassed by the media…and I still am till this day !!!!”

After touching on the documentary, she expressed: “I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy…love…and happiness !!!! Every day dancing brings me joy !!! I’m not here to be perfect…perfect is boring…I’m here to pass on kindness.”

While Jamie remains co-conservator of his daughter’s financial affairs, an arrangement Britney has said she is not happy with, the latest in the hearing on her conservatorship saw the star’s lawyer tell a judge that Britney wanted her temporary care manager, Jodi Montgomery, to be permanently installed to manage her personal affairs. It seems we won’t quite know the full story until Britney gives us the inside scoop, and reports suggest there might even be something in the pipeline with Oprah in the future.
