The tumour caused so much damage that by February 21, 1985, Louis Hayward was pronounced dead. During his lifetime, the South African born actor made a name for himself starring in films such as Walk A Crooked Mile (1948) and The Strange Woman (1946). An everlasting star on the Walk Of Fame celebrates the talent Hayward brought to the entertainment industry.
Having lived till 75, his encounter with cancer can, in part, cataflam tem dipirona be attributed to his habit of smoking three packs of cigarettes a day for more than half a century.
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says: “Cigarette smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in the body.
“Smoke from other people’s cigarettes, pipes, or cigars (secondhand smoke) also causes lung cancer.”
While vaping wasn’t an option for people like Hayward, the smoking cessation tool has become popular in the UK.
Expanding on the growing area of research on e-cigarettes, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has noted the adverse health risks associated with vaping.
“Long-term use of electronic cigarettes, or vaping products, can significantly impair the function of the body’s blood vessels,” the National Institutes of Health (NIH) notes.
Vaping then increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, which has been documented in the journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology.
While there is no current connection between vaping and cancer, that’s not to say that evidence will not come to light in years to come.
Cancer risk factors
Cancer Research UK states that 33 percent of cancers are linked to exposure to tobacco smoke.
Eighteen percent of cancer cases worldwide are linked to infections, and 12 percent of cases are associated with alcohol consumption.
Macmillan Cancer Support added that older age, a family history of the disease, and obesity are other risk factors for developing cancer.
How to reduce your risk of cancer
There are ways to reduce your risk of cancer, Cancer Research UK says.
“Research shows that things like stopping smoking and keeping a healthy weight can reduce the risk of cancer,” the charity adds.
Being more active, eating and drinking healthily, not smoking, being a healthy weight, and drinking no alcohol could reduce your risk of cancer.
Moreover, it’s helpful to be “safe in the sun”, meaning you wear sun protection.
“Too much UV radiation from the sun or sunbeds damages our skin cells,” Cancer Research UK elaborates.
There are numerous types of cancer, which is why it’s advisable to visit your doctor if you are experiencing troubling symptoms.
The sooner any type of cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better the outcome is likely to be.
