Everyone who knows me knows that I love to self-tan, and that means I always need to make sure my skin is prepped. I like to use a body scrub to ensure all the dead skin is buffed away for the most streak-free, flawless application, so I'm always on the hunt for new exfoliators to get the job done. When I found out one of my favorite skin-care brands, Drunk Elephant, was launching one, you better believe I had to be one of the first to try the Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub.
This exfoliator comes in a tub just like most body scrubs and with a generous amount of product to boot (nine fluid ounces, to be exact). When I first opened it — not going to lie — it was so tight that I had to ask my dad use a tool from his garage to crack the seal. However, once opened, I immediately fell in love with the scent — think walking into a Starbucks as soon as the baristas make a fresh batch of coffee.
Drunk Elephant put some really effective, skin-loving ingredients into this thing. It's made with coffee seed oil, which explains the delicious smell and works as an antioxidant to reduce inflamed skin. There's also almond milk for moisture, as well as powdered coffee beans and brown sugar extract, which, according to cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson, are very gentle scrubbers suitable for exfoliating sensitive skin.
The formula is also packed with oils from passionfruit, marula, jojoba, and coconut, which Robinson says provide emollience to make your body look and feel extremely smooth and soft.
I brought the scrub into my shower, scooped out a golf-ball-sized amount of the coffee-colored treatment, and started working the product into my wet skin. The texture is like a thick-brown sugar that sticks together — kind of like kinetic sand. I used the palm of my hand to buff the product into my skin in circular motions, starting at my feet and working all the way up to my neck.
Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub
Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub literally melted into my skin. Not only did I feel super soft after using it, but my entire body glistened. All of the visible dead skin was gone, and my Isle of Paradise Body Butter Self-Tanner? It applied like a dream: no streaks, just an even and smooth application.
I personally use this scrub three times a week because that's what dermatologists recommend, and it's important to not overdo it. "Over-exfoliate and you're likely to create tiny cracks in the skin barrier that lead to more loss of hydration and inflammation," Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, previously told Allure.
That being said, Drunk Elephant, you did it again. The Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub is a great pick-up to ensure your skin is always feeling moisturized, flake-free, and looking like dolphin skin.
Drunk Elephant's Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub is $28 and available now at sephora.com.
