Watch a Navy Vet Challenge an Army Green Beret to a Fitness Competition

In the latest video on his YouTube channel, fitness influencer and former Navy sailor Austen Alexander invites Joshua David, an active duty U.S. Army Green Beret, to take part in a test of strength, speed, and endurance. The challenge consists of three gauntlet-like events: the “battle bunker” obstacle course, a 40-pound barrel carry, and a sled push and pull.

“I feel really good about the obstacle course,” says David. “Most of these events I’ve done at some point in my military career… I’m pretty confident confident I’m going to put Austen in the dirt.”

Alexander completes the obstacle course in 1:55, while David takes 2:18 to reach the end. Alexander had a home court advantage here, as he built the course. But they’re on more equal footing for the next portion of the challenge; the 40-pound barrel carry, which starts off with a 75-yard sprint.

“I’m dreading this one,” says Alexander. “This is going to be brutal.” However, he pulls through and ends up beating David in this round as well, meaning that David has everything to prove in the third and final test—a weighted sled push and pull.

Alexander wins this one too, earning himself three points; although when the video ends, he’s still too out of breath to celebrate his victory.
