Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is caused by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland, making it swell and become damaged.

The NHS said: “As the thyroid is destroyed over time, it becomes unable to produce enough thyroid hormone.

“This leads to symptoms of an underachieve thyroid gland, such as tiredness, weight gain and dry skin.

“It may take months or even years for the condition to be detected because it progresses very slowly.

“Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is usually seen in women aged 30 to 50 and it sometimes runs in families.”

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is caused by the immune system attacking the thyroid gland, making it swell and become damaged.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases said: “Hashimoto’s disease is at least eight times more common in women than men.

“Although the disease may occur in teens or young women, it more often appears between ages 40 and 60.

“Your chance of developing Hashimoto’s disease increases if other family members have the disease.”

The signs are mainly having an underactive thyroid gland.

Other symptoms include feeling sluggish, constipated, having pale or dry skin, a puffy face, brittle nails, hair loss, muscle aches, joint pain, depression, and memory loss.

Michelle also revealed how she had to get used to her new body once the implants were removed.

The star said she was relearning how to move and hold her body as a result.
