Kym Marsh health latest: Murder At My Door presenter denies hiatus hernia op – what is it?
Kym Marsh and Gethin Jones speak to OK! in exclusive teaser
Presenting Murder At My Door with Kym Marsh, the true-crime docuseries has added another string to her bow. However, in the midst of her new TV programme, Kym has had to squash a rumour. The multifaceted mum-of-four faced reports that she was undergoing an operation for a hiatus hernia. Taking to Twitter, Kym Marsh set the facts straight. She posted: “If papers insist on reporting about people’s personal medical details, you would think they would bother to get the facts right!
“For the record I am not having surgery for a hiatus hernia!”
Hosting the BBC One’s Morning Live show, the 44-year-old told co-host Gethin Jones she’s really “surprised” how long her hernia recovery is taking.
“I am someone who likes to get up and about and do things for myself,” she said.
“It’s really difficult having to sit and do nothing, it’s horrendous. One of the problems of having a hernia is it’s really restrictive and stops you doing exercise you want to do.”

The Tweet, posted on February 1, said: “This recovery lark is not all bad. Columbo eps back to back and eating @PotNoodle in my pj’s!!! Love it.”
What’s a hiatus hernia?
The NHS explained a hiatus hernia is when part of the stomach moves up into the chest.
This condition is common for people over the age of 50, and doesn’t usually require treatment.
Although you may have a hiatus hernia without any troubling signs, some people may get symptoms.
Symptoms of a hiatus hernia can include heartburn – a painful, burning feeling in the chest usually brought on after eating.
Acid reflux could occur, which is when a person brings up small amounts of food or bitter-tasting fluids.
A person with this condition could have bad breath, burps and feel bloated.
Nausea or vomiting could occur, and there may be difficulty or pain when swallowing.
These are symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), which may require medical attention if symptoms persist for three weeks or longer.
Also see a doctor if you find symptoms are worsening or medicines from the pharmacy don’t help.
Treatments can include changing eating habits by eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day.
If you smoke, the NHS suggests you give up as it can worsen symptoms by irritating the digestive system.
If medicines from the pharmacy and lifestyle adjustments aren’t helping, your GP can prescribe stronger medication to treat the symptoms.
Should this not work, further tests will be arranged and surgery may be considered.
“This usually only happens if other treatments have not worked and you keep having very bad symptoms,” said the NHS.
Kym Marsh stars on ITV’s The Chase Celebrity on Sunday, February 7 at 5pm.
