Diet is key

Regardless of taste, diet can be key when it comes to the quality of your sperm.

In a study published in the National Library of Medicine, dietary patterns and semen quality in young men was investigated.

The research compared two groups of men following different diets.

One group ate mostly red and processed meat, refined grains, high-energy drinks and sweets, while the other group ate a healthier diet.

The study concluded that in young healthy men, higher consumption of foods such as fish, chicken, fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains was “significantly and positively associated with progressive sperm motility.”

Sperm is alkaline, reports Men’s Health, meaning it typically has a pH higher than 7.

Because of this alkaline factor it naturally has a bitter taste to it.

“Additionally, the quantity of fluid that you consume may play a role in how it tastes.” says Men’s Health.

Higher fluid intake has been shown to help with the alkalinity and therefore the taste with experts saying the more hydrated you are, the better the taste.

For the best food and drinks to help improve the taste of your semen, experts suggest:

  • Pineapple juice
  • Celery
  • Asparagus
  • Kiwi fruits
  • Blueberries
  • Cinnamon
  • Peppermint
  • Parsley

Alcohol, tobacco, coffee and other substances like drugs can all impact the taste of your semen, warns experts.

Consuming any of these substances can reportedly cause the flavour to become more bitter, pungent or sour.

If you want to try to improve the taste of your semen it's important to remember the changes will not be instantaneous.

As with most things, it's a lifestyle makeover which will take time but abstaining from these substances is a great start.
