PARIS — The coronavirus has caused two beauty-related trade shows, Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna and Luxe Pack Shanghai, to postpone their fairs.
Cosmoprof, which was meant to hold its show for perfumery, cosmetics and packaging from March 12 to 15 and its show for hair, nails and beauty salon from March 13 to 16, said Monday that instead the fairs will run from June 11 to 15.
On Monday, there were  more than 200 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Italy, versus three on Friday morning. Six people in the country have died from the virus, and 11 Italian towns are in lockdown mode.
The coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China, has already infected more than 77,000 people in China, where the death toll has almost reached 2,600. The virus has subsequently spread around the globe.
“The latest news concerning new coronavirus in Italy has forced us to review our positions,” Gianpiero Calzolari, president of BolognaFiere, Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna’s organizer, said in a statement released Monday evening. “In agreement with the regional government of Emilia-Romagna and with the municipality of Bologna, we have assessed the situation, and postponing the event is currently the most correct solution, to support Italian institutions engaged today in protecting our health.”
“In this way we can offer to the over 3,000 exhibitors of this edition and to the 265,000 operators attending our exhibition every year a high-quality business event, as in the tradition of Cosmoprof,” said Enrico Zannini, general manager of BolognaFiere Cosmoprof SA.
Luxe Pack Shanghai, the high-end packaging trade show, also said it had changed the dates of its trade show, formerly scheduled to run from April 8 and 9. Instead, it will now take place in the Shanghai Exhibition Center from July 7 to 8.
“This decision has been made on advice and information from government and local authorities in China and consultation with partners, venue and local team,” Luxe Pack said in a statement Monday morning. “The health and safety of exhibitors, visitors and staff is of the utmost importance and the first priority for organizers.
“Our sympathies at this time are with those affected in China and all around the world,” it continued.
Meanwhile, Beauty Düsseldorf confirmed on Monday that it still plans to go ahead and hold its trade show from March 6 to 8.
As reported, eyewear trade show Mido on Saturday said it would move its dates to late May or early June as a result of the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
